HOW TO PLAN YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Congratulations on your engagement! Now that you’ve showed off your bling and have picked a date and venue, it's time to start thinking about your engagement session!

Where to start when planning engagement pictures

WHEN TO PLAN YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

First off, figure out WHEN you want to do your session. I really love that here in our lil corner of Ohio, we are so lucky to have four different seasons that provide four completely different beautiful backdrops. Decide if you want the spring florals, summer sun on the water, fall foliage or winter wonderland.

Once you know the date, you can do a quick google search to find out the approximate time of sunset. We like to start our sessions a couple ours before the sunsets to get the best light as the sun goes down! This will depend on our location, how many outfits you have, if we’re traveling to a couple different spots, etc., but this will at least give you an IDEA of what time we’ll be starting.

Lastly, If you’re hoping to use these photos for save the dates or wedding invitations, you’ll want to make sure you schedule your session early enough to get those out in time!

WHERE TO DO YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Next, think about a location. We like to think of it as a date night, so consider going somewhere that has special meaning to you. Maybe it's where you met, had your first date or a place where you just love spending time together. You can also check out our blog on our favorite locations for engagement sessions in Toledo!

PICKING OUTFITS FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Once you know when and where, you can choose outfits for your engagement session! A couple years ago, I did a video interview with the talented Jessica from WeekenderFashion over on YouTube. We talked about how to choose your outfits and I think that video still holds true today, so be sure to check that out as well.

You want to be able to enjoy this time, so find something you feel comfortable and confident in. Find color and pattern combinations that complement each other and the location you've chosen. (For example, If you’re going to a park setting, you might not want to wear bright neon colors or high heels that you can’t walk in!).

ENGAGEMENT SESSION VISION

Make sure you think about what you want out of your engagement session. What story do you want to tell, what vibe or style are you going for? Have fun with it and create a vision board or talk through some of your favorite dates and memories! This is your chance to give off some real main character energy, so let’s create something awesome!

This brings us to the last but most important thing - be sure to relax and have fun! We will give you plenty of direction so all you have to do is enjoy the moment with your partner. And we weren’t kidding about hitting up happy hour beforehand! Relax and don’t overthink it. Get ready to laugh and enjoy each other's company and we’ll be there to capture the adorableness.
