THINGS TO DO ON VALENTINE'S DAY IN NORTHWEST OHIO

Every successful relationship has their opinions about Valentine’s Day. You either love it and indulge in all the heart-shaped chocolate Dove has to offer, or it’s just another day full of pressure and impossible expectations. With a little perspective shift I think we can all come to the conclusion that Valentine’s Day should be a day to treat-yo-self… and your significant other.

Whether you’re a ‘Netflix-and-Chill’ kind of couple or a “Get-dressed-up-and-go-out-to-a-fancy-dinner’ kind of couple, we can all agree that it’s fun to take advantage of this commercialized holiday and indulge in the things we love with the person we love.

In a time where we’re all too busy, technology rules our attention, and relational intimacy is fleeting, we’ve curated a short list of things to do (AND EAT) around Northwest Ohio to ensure that you keep dating your spouse, even if the traditional Valentine’s Day thing isn’t your jam.

1. Pamper Yourself!

Yes, this might sound really simple, BUT, can be really overlooked. SHOWER, try on some perfume, makeup, maybe a new outfit combo, and feel great about yourself! Whether you go get couples mani-pedi at Reve Salon and Spa or treat yourself to a relaxing couples massage at Serenity Health & Wellness Center, where you can release tension, while relaxing your mind, body and soul!

2. Movie Night Out

An oldie, but a goodie! There’s truly no better way to get your mind off things than watching the big screen with your person and allll the snacks. You don’t have to be a movie goer to enjoy a good comedy or hold hands tightly during a critically acclaimed thriller! Especially if you’re not a regular at the movie theater, grabbing a bite to eat before or after your film is a sure way to have a sweet time together.

3. Movie Night In

For all you busy-bees, go-getters, and introverts… this might be the perfect option for you to just wind down and take the pressure off. Smart TV’s and Netflix make it way too easy to watch any genre of movie, old or new, wherever your heart desires. Want to take it up a notch? Order your favorite take-out or some gummy bears and popcorn from Instacart! And, I’d encourage you to turn off your phone and put it somewhere you won’t be tempted to use it. This way you can be completely distraction-free and really enjoy a night alone. This is a sure way to have an intimate, cozy, uninterrupted night at home!

4. City Escape!

Living in northwest Ohio means we have a LOT of neighboring big cities that are not too far of a drive for us! It doesn’t take much effort at all to Yelp something fun to do in downtown Detroit, Cleveland, or Columbus. A weekend getaway might be JUST what you need to escape the winter-blues. Book a night stay at the Shinola Hotel in Detroit, or eat and shop to your heart’s content in the Short-North in Columbus. Either way, you won’t be disappointed!

5. Galentine’s Day!

Basically, kiss your significant other on the cheek and leave them with a cute card and then BOUNCE. Obviously pack the essentials, like fuzzy slippers, matching PJ’s, and OODLES of champagne. Then, grab your best girls and find an aesthetically pleasing Airbnb to spend your day drinking, watching rom-coms, and painting each other’s nails!

6. Museum Outing

The Toledo Museum of Art ALWAYS has a new exhibit going on for you to enjoy. If you’ve already been to the Art Museum, you’re guaranteed to have a completely new, immersive experience! Plus, what’s more romantic than roaming the endless hallways of art with the person you love in this beautifully designed building?

7. Coffee or Brewery Date

Whether you have to make a calendar invite or just allot a half hour before or after work, a quick break is EXACTLY what you need to make a regular day feel special for Valentine’s Day. It’s always enjoyable to just realign with your spouse over a cup specialty cup of coffee (that you didn’t have to make) or a glass of wine from a local brewery.

8. SWEETS

This one might be the oldest tip in the book, but it always WORKS. Nothing says I love you like going out of your way to pick up some chocolate covered strawberries or visit one of the many bakeries in town for a special V-Day goody!

Here’s just a few of our favorite bakeries in town:

- Eston’s Bakery

- So Sweet Pastries

- Wixey’s Bakery

9. Dinner & Drinks

If you’re planning on sticking around Toledo, there are NO shortage of restaurants in the area that will make give you a memorable experience. Including, but not limited to:

- The Heights

A rooftop bar experience with a beautiful 360 view of the river and hand-crafted cocktails and cuisine.

- Kengo Sushi & Yakitori

Get your reservations in soon! This place is limited, but oh so good.

- Benchmark or Claude’s

These sister restaurants are for those foodie lovers. Check out Benchmark for an amazing steak or Claude’s if seafood is more your jam. Just prepare to be pampered!

No matter how you choose to spend your Valentine’s Day, we hope that you’ll find time in this busy world to really date your spouse and make them feel special!
